Modern Art Screen Prints For Sale
The Word Serigraph is a combination of two Greek words, seicos, meaning silk, and graphos, meaning writing. Serigraphy, also known as screen printing, is a method of creating an image on paper, fabric or some other object by pressing ink through a screen with areas blocked off by a stencil. Serigraphy is a process for producing editions (multiple originals) of artwork. However each print in an edition is considered an original work of art, not a copy.
Serigraphy can be traced as far back as 9000 BC. The original material used in screen printing was silk, hence the name Silkscreen printing. Today polyester is the fabric of choice.
